Ronald Caldwell Thomson

August 19, 1940 - September 28, 2021

Ronald Caldwell Thomson, 81, passed away on Tuesday September 28, 2021 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Thomson was born in Creston, IA on August 19, 1940 to the late John Lucas & Florence Brown Thomson. He joined the U S Air Force in 1962 serving until he retired in 1986 as a E6 TSGT. During this time, he served in Vietnam from 1967-1968. Ron was an active member of the Elks Lodge #605,life time member in Creston Vietnam Veterans Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Knights of Columbus at St. Mary's Catholic Church where he was a parishioner. He earned his bachelor's degree in education from the University of Southern Mississippi and had been married to his wife Sherry for fifty nine years. Ron enjoyed JUDO and model trains. He is survived by his wife Sherry Schaffer Thomson, Jackson, TN, daughters, Sheron Thomson Kirk, Rebecca Scheidecker, both of Jackson, TN, Catherine Lorino, Shawnee, KS, sister, Dorothy Shea, Florida. eight grandchildren, Travis & Trevor Kirk, Alexandra Kirk, Gabriella Lorino, Dominic Lorino, Nicholas Lorino, Cecilia Lorino and Braden Scheidecker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a brother John R. Thomson, and sisters Janice Harden and Mary Margaret Thomson. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday Oct. 7, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Church in Jackson, TN with Father David Graham officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A. M. until the funeral hour. Committal services with military honors will be Friday, 10:00 AM October 8, 2021 at the Veterans National Cemetery in Madison, TN, 1420 Gallatin Pike South. Friendship Funeral Home 731-677-2673.
