Alta Eugenia Thompson
December 31,1930 – June 22, 2025
Alta Eugenia Thompson, age 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 22, 2025, at Christian Care Center in Medina, TN surrounded by loved ones. Alta was born on December 31, 1930, to the late Mack M. Harper, Sr. and Margretta Lindsay Harper. Alta lived a life marked by deep love for her family, unwavering faith, and quiet strength.
Alta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Ernest Thompson Jr., her son, John Thompson, sister, Christine Walker, and brothers, Mack M. Harper Jr. and Horace Harper and her beloved dog, Angel. Though she endured great loss, Alta remained a pillar of love and resilience for her family. Alta was a 1948 graduate of Jackson High School. She worked as a bank teller and loan officer for over 40 years starting with First National Bank and ending with Regions Bank. Alta was known as the queen of her front porch after she retired and loved to invite people to visit on her porch.
She leaves behind a legacy through her devoted children: Ladd Thompson (Angela), Mark Thompson (Jan), Alan Thompson (Vicky), Gretta McRee (Ken) and Todd Thompson. Alta was a proud and loving grandmother to nine grandchildren: Logan Thompson, Madelyn Thompson (Jon), Anna Doyle (Seth) Heath Thompson (Carissa), Jessica Meckstroth (Jacob), Taylor Puckett (Steve), Lindsay Chappell (Bailey), Ransom McRee (Delaney), and Lofton McRee. She was so privileged to love nine great grandchildren as well. Jarhett (11), Eleanor (7), Abel (6), Rextyn (6), Leah (6), Colby (3), Grant (3), Loxleigh (3) and Mary Grace (1). Her large family brought her immense joy through many years of her life.
Known for her warmth, wit, and grace, Alta had a loving spirit that touched everyone she met. She was very humorous and loved to tell stories. She will be remembered not only for the life she lived but for the love she gave-unconditional, steadfast, and true.
A traditional visitation and service will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1665 US-45 Bypass Jackson, TN 38305, in honor of Alta’s life. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M.-10:30 A.M., Rosary at 10:30 A.M. and funeral service at 11:00 A.M. with Father David Graham presiding. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in remembrance of Alta’s generous heart.
The burial will take place following the service at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 400 Hardee Street, Jackson, TN 38305.
