Melva Ann VanDyke's Obituary
Mrs. Melva Ann Williams VanDyke, 92, passed away on Saturday June 15, 2024 at the Bells Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after an short illness. She was born in Friendship, TN daughter of the late Eugene and Vinnie Colvett Willliams and had lived most of her life in Jackson and Friendship, TN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton VanDyke, Jr. and they shared sixty-eight years of marriage. While living in Jackson, she was a switchboard operator and a waitress. Upon leaving Jackson in 1970 they bought a restaurant in Friendship and operated it for several years. She retired from Friendship Elementary School as cafeteria manager after twenty-five years. Mrs. VanDyke was a faithful member of the Friendship Baptist Church. She is survived by children Mike VanDyke (Margo), Cheryl Harris (Terry), Friendship, TN; sister, Connie York, Maury City, TN; grandchildren, Shad VanDyke (Charlotte) Mountain Home, AR, Cody VanDyke, Jackson, TN, Chelsea George (Darren) Alamo, TN; great grandchildren Heather VanDyke, (Cory), Mountain Home, AR, Dawson VanDyke, Kennedy Harris, Abel Harris, all of Jackson, TN, Elliott George, Claire Tyler George, Alamo, TN and great- great grandchild Caroline Cook. Services are scheduled for Tuesday June 18th at 12 P. M. at the Friendship Funeral Home with Dr. Jerry Drace officiating and burial to follow in the Bellevernon Cemetery. She was also preceded by siblings Mickey, Jim, G. A., Ronnie Williams, Mildred Bedwell, Dorothy Golden, Betty Griggs, Nancy Johnson and grandson, Tyler Harris. The family will receive friends at the funeral home starting at 10:00 a.m. until funeral hour. Pallbearers serving will be Shad VanDyke, Cody VanDyke, Dawson, VanDyke, Tony VanDyke, Darren George, and Brandon York. Friendship Funeral Home 731-677-2673
