Rex Phillip Wood's Obituary
Rex Phillip Wood
September 5, 1965 - June 27, 2025
Rex Phillip Wood was born on September 5, 1965 in Sacramento, California to Glen "Bill" William and
Betty May Yoder Wood and was their 9th and youngest child. Rex was a devout Roman Catholic.
Rex, like his father, had a love of things mechanical and like his mother had a love of creating things
out of materials and making music. Rex shared his parents love of traveling and this sustained him
in his over 25 years as a big rig truck driver. He loved that his office always had changing views to
behold every day. A little over 8 years ago, Rex decided that he wanted to be home every night and
off road, and he made the decision to make a career change into manufacturing. This change, while
greatly different from driving truck, satisfied his love of creating useful items.
Fourteen years ago, Rex and his beloved wife Debra, moved from Northern California to Jackson,
Tennessee and it was a happy fit for him. Rex loved the forests, curvy roads, beautiful blue skies
and the sincere kindness of Tennesseans.
Rex was preceded in death by his father Bill and mother Betty and by his nephew William Wood.
Rex is survived by his wife Debra of 37 years, son Jesse Wood, brother Edward Fitzgerald and seven
sisters: Ruth Ann Woodruff (Gary, belated), Rose Ellen Marlin (Howard, belated), Becky Cree (Mike),
Terry Ledford (Gary, belated), Diana Leon Cox (Kevin), Jo Ella Cheplic (Tom) and Willa Dawn
Whittenburg (Ed), and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Thursday, July 10, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Jonathan Perez officiating. Rosary will be 10:30 am Thursday with visitation beginning at 10:00.
