Ruth Carene Thompson's Obituary
Ruth Carene Castellaw Thompson, 86, of Alamo died Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Jackson- Madison County General Hospital. The youngest daughter of James and Ninnie Cogburn Castellaw, she was born in Crockett County, Tenn, and lived for many years in Memphis. Mrs. Thompson was an avid seamstress and craftswoman and was well known by members of her family and community for her love of gardening and her penchant for crocheting and fine needlework. Preceded in death by her husband, William Neil Thompson, she is survived by her daughter, Connie Thompson (Antonio Zurlo) of South Orange, N.J., and her grandchildren Giulia, Cristina and Gianluca Zurlo., upon whom she doted. Visitation will be at Friendship Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2016, until services begin at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery in Crockett Mills, Tenn. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation (https://www.alzfdn.org/) or Barker's Chapel Baptist Church, of which she was a longtime member.
