George Ed Simmons' Obituary
Funeral services for George Ed Simmons, 78, will be held on Wednesday October 14, 2020 at 2:00 P. M. at the First Baptist Church of Maury City with Rev. Jerald Dawson and Rev. Mike Waddey officiating. Burial will follow in the Maury City Cemetery. Mr. Simmons died on Saturday October 10, 2020 at his residence of a sudden illness. He was born in Dyersburg, TN son of the late William "Bill" and Martha Richards Simmons and lived most of his life in Crockett County. Mr. Simmons was a retired employee of American Air Filter and a member of the First Baptist Church of Maury City. He served as an alderman and mayor of Maury City for several terms. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Louise Brasfield, brother, William Thomas Simmons, and sister, Ruthie Atchison. Survivors include, sons Steve Simmons (Phyllis), Finger, TN, Lamar Whitaker (Tracye),Trenton, TN, daughter Sherry Beasley (Keith), Jackson, TN, brother, Claudie B. Simmons, Ripley, TN, grandchildren, Heather Fesmire, Cody Simmons, Jonathan Kiser, Alex Simmons, Chase Whitaker, Cory Whitaker, great grandchildren, Lucas, Everett and Cora Whitaker. Pallbearers will be Cody Simmons, Alex Simmons, Chase Whitaker, Will Huff, Mike Atchison, and Gary Mayfield. Heather Fesmire will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Visitation will be at the church beginning at 11:00 A.M. until funeral time. Due to Covid-19 masks and social distancing is requested. Maury City Funeral Home 731-656-2113.
