Helen Darlene Butler's Obituary
Funeral services for Helen "Darlene" Butler will be Friday February 7, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Jackson, TN. Visitation will be from 10-12 with a funeral mass following at 12:00 officiated by Monsignor Al Kirk and Father David Graham. Darlene died Monday February 4, 2025 in her home after a short illness. She was born in Omaha, Nebraska on May 6, 1932 to James B. Walsh and Clarissa C. Walz Walsh.
Darlene and her husband, Jimmy, moved to Jackson with their family in 1959. Darlene was a veteran in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. She served stateside as a fork lifter and truck driver so her male counterparts could fight the war. She is proceeded in death by her husband of 64 yrs. James L. Butler and 6 siblings.
She is survived by her children, Kathy Moore (Danny) of Milan, Jeanne Johnson (Joe) of Jackson, Jimmy Butler (Mary) of Hanson, KY, Teri Oeding (Rob) of Collierville, TN, Matt Butler (Amanda) of Medina, Mike Butler (Yuan) of Atlanta, GA, and a brother Larry Walsh (Mary) of Gig Harbor, WA. She also had 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren.
Darlene had a lifetime of memories. After raising her 6 children, she decided to pursue a career in nursing. In 1976 she graduated from TN Vocational School with her LPN degree and in 1976 from Union University with her RN degree. She gave up her nursing license at the age of 84. During her years as a nurse she worked in all fields and in many capacities. Her last and final love was hospice, in this field she found her calling. Even after retiring she worked at a hospice as a volunteer.
Her passion was helping others and was demonstrated throughout her life by helping in the Girl Scouts as a leader and camp nurse, by being part of medical missions to Haiti, volunteering at Camp Bluebird for cancer patients and fundraisers at church.
Darlene was infamous for her wall of the Blessed Mother.
She will be remembered and cherished by her family for her love of entertaining, her deep faith, her values she instilled in her children and her love of life.
